When my first child came along, I was overjoyed with the prospect of taking my precious bundle of joy out to show off to the world. That excitement quickly changed to apprehension and trepidation when I began to realize how much gear would be involved in preparing to get the two of us out of the house for a short outing to the mall. What if an essential was forgotten? The one thing I did not have to fret over was how I was going to get that baby from one store to the next in comfort and style. With the broad selection of Evenflo strollers to select from, I had nothing to worry about in the baby transport department.

This company has been ranked with higher quality construction and more safety features than any other manufacturer in the marketplace. Evenflo strollers offer an extensive variety of model and styles that will meet every circumstance and stage of your child’s life. Models for newborns will recline flat so that your infant can take a nap while you are checking out the clearance sales. For the baby on the go, you can set the seat to the upright position and offer a juice cup or toy to keep them entertained while waiting in line with the other bargain hunters. There is a nice generous basket underneath the seat that will hold your essentials and baby’s gear for an afternoon of running around.

For the older child, an umbrella Evenflo stroller is definitely the way to go. These models are easy to store and lightweight, plus the youngster can even climb in and out on their own. When my youngest got old enough to sit up on his own, we began using this for quick jaunts, although we still saved the older, larger model for day trips because of the extra storage and additional comfort. One element I particularly had a fondness for about Evenflo strollers was that some styles offered an adjustable handle for the maximum comfort of an extra tall or short adult who might otherwise need a visit with a chiropractor after pushing one of those puppies around all day! I also like the cute patterns and colors of fabrics that were available to choose from.

When the second child came along, we had to face the issue of how to get two little ones moved about in comfort and style. Fortunately, Evenflo strollers came through for us once more with tandem units designed to hold two. Oh, the freedom of strapping two busy bodies into a single unit and pushing it through the store or park! The kids loved being able to ride together and we were able to carry out many more activities as a family at this stage because we had the right contraption to transport the kids around. Evenflo strollers unquestionably made the difference between being a mobile family and one that spent their weekends at home!

In terms of a new baby, purchasing a pushchair is one of the more significant decisions you will be making. If you make a good decision, it can make your life as a parent easier, however, if you choose a stroller or pushchair for the wrong reasons, it can make your life much more difficult. In fact, it is likely you will not use that pushchair and go out and buy another.

I have spoken with a number of parents who have made exactly this mistake and then ended up owning two or even more pushchairs. Why? – because stroller, pushchairs and buggies come in a wide variety of shapes and sizes. As a parent, indeed as a parent purchasing a stroller for the very first time, it is easy to make your acquisition for the wrong reasons – as you don’t yet understand the most essential factors when making that purchase.

When taking a baby or toddler outdoors, in a stroller, buggy or pushchair, you will quickly realize that you will need to have so many other items with you – spare clothing, bottles, nappies and food. Furthermore, you won’t be able to carry shopping while you are pushing your stroller, so you want to be able to store shopping on your pushchair.

You are probably realizing that all of this is going to be adding weight, and you are right. The combined weight of the baby, stroller, shopping, food, clothes and everything else will become quite significant.

As the weight keeps adding up you will sacrifice maneuverability, and shopping can start to become really challenging. Imagine you are fighting your way around a hectic store with narrow aisles and you’ll begin to realize that when it comes to shopping, it can be really important to have a lightweight buggy.

There are a lot of circumstances where there are other factors that must also be taken into account and weight is not as important. Purchasing a stroller, pushchair or buggy is not a simple decision and deserves much consideration and thought.

As you know there is a wide variety of baby strollers available to choose from. Your choice of strollers will be affected by how many children you plan to use it for, how you are going to use the stroller and where, and finally your budget. Besides everything else, your baby’s comfort and safety will also influence your choice. Let’s consider some of the stroller types that are available to you.

The standard stroller will fit one child and there are many different features on standard strollers such as play trays, parent trays, handlebars and fabrics. On many strollers handlebars are now height adjustable which is great back saver.

Double strollers have two seats. There is a variety of seating arrangements for double strollers. The traditional double seat is tandem style, with one behind the other. Tandem seating has the first child with a good view, leaving the one in the back seat with only the view of the back of the other’s head. A variation on tandem seating is stadium seating. Think of bleachers where each seat is raised slightly above the one in front of it allowing those in the rear to see what’s going on. There is also face-to-face, or side-by-side seating available as well.

Jogging strollers have become popular because they allow you to bring your child along on a run. The jogging stroller will have a triangular wheel base with one wheel in the front and two large wheels in the rear. They have many attractive features. An added safety feature is a strap on the handle bar that is worn on the wrist so that when you stop so the stroller can’t roll away from you when you stop. As always whenever you stop your stroller the break should always be applied. You should also use the wrist strap for extra protection. Jogging strollers with multiple seating are also available.

Triple strollers are fantastic for triplets or three children. Most will have tandem or stadium seating arrangements, by can also come with side-by-side seating. When you are pushing a stroller full of kids it will help you achieve your fitness and exercise goals.

Convertible multiple strollers are available where they can be made into double seater’s with additional seats and a transverse bar. You might want to check if this option is available for the particular stroller you are considering.

Umbrella strollers are very inexpensive. They are generally easier to fold and unfold. They are very lightweight and store easily in a car trunk. They are terrific for short trips to the Mall or short walks. They do not work well on all terrain. They do come in multiple seating as well. An important drawback that umbrella strollers have is that it can tip over backwards if anything is hung on the handle.

Light weight strollers are slightly heavier than the umbrella strollers and somewhat less than the typical standard stroller. They usually fold with a single hand motion. They also resemble the standard type stroller. They also come in multiple seating.

Carriage Strollers are convertible strollers in that you can change them from a carriage (a bed on wheels) to a stroller. This is great for infants that are unable to sit up yet. The handle is reversible so you can turn it into a stroller which is great for children who are sitting up.

Bike strollers or trailers are installed by attaching it to the rear wheel. Two seated models are also available. They can be converted into a stroller from a trailer without tools. A 5-point harness for each child is the restraint systm.

They provide customers an extensive choice of portability, convenience, flexibility and storage options over a wide range of prices. Previously, regular strollers were designed around the idea of having the child lie down flat while the parents pushed the stroller. Now, strollers are built so they are more appropriate to the needs of a growing baby, along with being suitable for the mother and father. In addition, manufacturers have made tailor made and customized travel system strollers to allow traveling to be comfortable for the child, as well as the parents.

There are now several types of strollers available. There are some designed for specialized use, such as lightweight or jogging strollers. Others are intended for more everyday use. Regardless of the type of stroller you are buying, here are some things to consider before buying your new stroller.

Be absolutely sure the stroller is equipped with an effective and appropriate restraint system. Check for a 3-point seatbelt that will come up between the legs and also go around the waist. The buckle should be comfortable against your child. If you are looking at a jogging stroller, be sure you get a 5-point restraint system (with shoulder straps) since running will result in your child being bounced around. The shoulder belts are needed to comfortable keep them in place, even when jogging.

Make sure the stroller has a brake. For most casual strollers this will be a brake to use just when you are parking the stroller. Make sure it is easy to use and works reliably. For joggers, you should also insist on a brake that can be used to brake the stroller while it is being used. Be certain that the brake is simple to function and that you can lock the tire(s) without too much effort.

The majority of strollers have a mechanism that allows the stroller to be folded up for storage or travel. Be sure you can operate the folding apparatus yourself; it is not much fun to be standing in the snow outside your car desperately trying to fold up your stroller. Even more significant than how easy it is to fold, you need to consider how strong it is while it is open. Make sure there is a secure locking mechanism that prevents the stroller from folding accidentally after it is opened. If it should fold up while your child is in the stroller, they can be injured.

See how easy it is to operate the stroller by taking it for a test drive. You should be able to use the stroller with one hand. Strollers will be easier to steer with both front and rear wheels that can swivel. Strollers that have wheels that only spin in just one direction can be more awkward to maneuver.

A handle that is at waist height will be easiest to use. For a person of average height, this shouldn’t be an issue. But if you happen to be extremely short or tall, you should try to choose a stroller with an adjustable height handle.

Look for options to make your child more comfortable when riding in the stroller. These can include reclining seats (makes for easier napping), comfortable padding, canopies to protect against sun, wind and rain, with cup holders and bins for snacks.

Check that the stroller has plenty of storage space for things like diaper bags, backpacks, shopping bags, etc. The more storage you have availabe, the happier you will be with your stroller.

We all know kids make lots of messes. If your kids are especially prone to destroying fabric, try to find a stroller that offers removable fabric covers over the seats. Removable or not, look for fabric on the stroller can that be cleaned with water and a mild detergent. While a stylish fabric may look great when new, if it’s not washable that look will quickly fade.

Be sure to check the frame of the stroller for pokey bits or sharp edges. You should also check for gaps that could catch small toes or fingers. Check the leg openings of the stroller to be certain that they are not wide enough for an infant to accidentally slip through them.

Before considering a stroller, or any other product for your child, be sure to check if there is a recall against the product you are thinking about getting.

I’m thinking to myself as I’m about to write about baby strollers, what is there to write about? A product review, or a promotion of one stroller or another? Does a stroller warrant its an article of its own? What is going to be the angle? What can I offer that others have not? In addition, I don’t want to insult your intelligence by writing about the obvious. If you read this article, it means that you have already done some research about strollers, and I don’t want to waste your time by repeating what others have already written.

I explored online material that was available, intensely observed babies, mothers, and strollers – all in the hopes of finding an angle in groundwork for this article.

I have became aware of a number of things about strollers that I didn’t know before. So this will be a series of “Did you know?” points.

Did you know about these?

Studies about strollers:

The Los Angeles Times recited a study about the adverse affects the stroller has on the babies. Parents keep the babies and toddlers in the stroller too long due to the convenience of the stroller, therefore, adding to the obesity factor.

Another study from the U.K. indicates toddlers spend a lot of time in the strollers and Mommies don’t talk to them as much; and they can grow up to be children with social issues and not bonding as well.

Special Needs strollers:

There are now strollers specializing and accommodating babies with special needs; with extra support because of poor muscle tone. Previously, strollers were of the very basic pram or umbrella style. It should help so much to have a stroller with pockets in which medicine could be stored.

Double or Triple strollers:

This specialty stroller is designed for the family with more than one child in the baby or toddler stage. The seats are arranged either side by side or in a one-behind-the-other fashion.

Travel Systems:

Today’s strollers are more sophisticated than ever before, incorporating functionality which transforms the stroller from tram (baby carriage) to a sitting stroller to a car seat. Consequently, the label “travel systems”.

Safety Features:

Today’s safety features include better safety belts, better cushions, bumpers, swivel wheels, air filled tires, brakes, and more. Speaking of brakes, it is a huge improvement over the brick masquerading as a brake. If I were to use my first stroller today, surely CPS would decent on me in a New York minute.

Strollers and Sports:

Today it is possible for you to take your baby on your jogging trail with you, or go cycling. Yes, there are now durable, specialized strollers for the runner, the cyclist and even the skater. I am waiting for the swimmer to have floating strollers.

Prices:

Strollers can range from $20 for a used one up to a staggering $1,000.

Recalls:

I think I’ve discussed many of the things I found out about strollers, and up until now have avoided providing any advice. I strongly recommend that you perform your own research when you are ready to buy a stroller, which will be as soon as you have your baby. Additionally, I implore you to check the Consumer Product Safety Commission for any recall details regarding your stroller. It is straightforward – just visit http://www.cpsc.gov.

Since you’ve gotten the news, I’m sure you’ve begun to gather the things that your new bundle of joy will be needing. The decisions needed for your first baby may at first seem a bit overwhelming. One of the biggest decisions you will be making concerns the type of stroller you will use for your baby. When choosing from among the many different types of baby strollers, one of the first things you need to consider is your budget.

Stroller costs can range from $10 to $400 and even higher. The very light weight umbrella strollers are general on the lower end. The advantage these strollers have is that they can be folded up nicely, and can be stored almost anywhere. The higher prices of strollers may well indicate extra features and provide better quality.

The features that may come with strollers are many and you should determine which ones are important to you. A travel system that is convertible may be your preference over a regular stroller and a car seat. Travel systems have a stay-in-the-car base, and a stroller frame to attach the infant carrier / car safety seat to.

These are especially great for your newborn baby. Play trays with a place for a bottle or juice cup come on strollers. Canopies with a vinyl window to let you keep an eye on the baby are available with many strollers. Many strollers are equipped with brakes that are attached to both rear wheels and applied with your foot and also a wrist brake strap that is used with the foot brake. This can provide a bit of extra safety preventing the stroller from rolling away while you are stopped while you use have the strap on. Many strollers are now coming with a parent tray that is placed over the handle bar as well as a large storage basket under the seat(s).

There is often space for a cup of coffee or soda, your cell phone, your keys and space to hold a snack. On many strollers the handle bars are now reversible and can be moved from front to rear or vice versa. Additionally, they may be height adjustable. You can save your back by using the height adjustable feature and by using the reversible handle bar you can see your baby while he rides.

Next is the seat consideration. If the seat reclines, does it recline enough so that your newborn can lie almost flat? Is the seat well padded and comfortable for your baby? Can the seat padding be removed for washing? Many strollers in the upper-end will have blankets with snaps that attach under the seat. Rain hoods that can detached are used to protect your baby from wind and harsh sunlight.

There is yet another twist to your decision about a baby stroller. Should you consider a stroller that that is almost brand new and is available from a friend for free? She agrees to have the stroller cleaned and be ready for you. Is putting your baby in a used stroller a safe choice?

It can be a good choice for you and your baby, but there are things you will need to look at before you place your baby in it. There should be no cracks in the frame, and there should be no gaps or dents, and all bolts and screws must be in place. Anything less could injure your baby or cause an accident. Does the frame have any sharp spots? Are there any screws that are loose or are sticking out that could cut your baby? Are the handle bar and frame properly joined?

Are there leaks in the air pressure of the wheels or are they solid? Are the wheels worn? Do they possibly need to be replaced? Do the wheels turn as they should, and do the axles seem straight? Are the brakes operating appropriately and hold when they are applied?

Does the seat hold its position in the reclining and upright positions? Your baby could sustain a serious injury if the seat does not hold its place well. Does the lining fit the frame properly and is it clean? Strollers come with a wide variety of options, types, and styles. Multiple children can use multi-seated strollers. Side-by-side, tandem, and stadium seating (which is tandem seating with the rear seat that is slightly raised above the front one and allows the child in the rear seat to see more than the back of the head of the forward child) are available.

Jogging strollers come with one large wheel out in front and two smaller rear wheels. Multiple seating is also available for jogging strollers. You can enjoy your outings with your baby or children whether the stroller is used or new.
