My sister had her first child six months ago, and the two of them are at long last settling into a comfortable daily routine. Since the baby now sleeps through the night, my sister’s energy levels are getting back to normal. She’s also becoming increasingly anxious to return to a fitness regimen to lose some of the weight she gained during the pregnancy. After she told me about this, I suggested purchasing a jogging stroller so she could exercise even with the baby in tow.

We had a jogging stroller when my son was still in diapers, and I thought it was fantastic! It’s a spendid way to run, jog or walk your way back into shape after having a baby, and gets rid of that built-in excuse of not finding a sitter. In addition, babies love to take in all the new sights and sounds while riding in a jogging stroller. These exercise outings will turn out to be something to look forward to.

My sister liked the idea, and agreed that a jogging stroller would be ideal for her circumstances. Unfortunately, I had already gotten rid of my old jogger a couple of years ago at a garage sale, otherwise I would have gladly given it to her. But now I can help her shop for one, as I still remember all of the principal features and qualities to look for.

The initial thing I would look for in a jogging stroller is comfort. Will it offer a comfortable and smooth ride for your baby? Is it easy to push and maneuver? Comfort is generally a function of design, so I would review the wheel size and alignment, at the same time as the handlebar placement (and whether or not the handlebars can be adjusted).

The second issue I would look for is durability. Jogging strollers have become so prevalent these days that a number of manufacturers are creating less expensive products to take advantage of the increased demand. But since my sister will be using the jogging stroller for quite a few years, I told her to spend the extra money on a good piece of equipment.

And lastly, I would consider the accessories and amenities that are available. Is the canopy large enough? Does the stroller have cup holders for a water bottle or baby’s cup? Is there a storage basket for a diaper bag? Is the harness easy to buckle and unbuckle?

This can’t be a comprehensive shopping guide, but I think it’s a pretty good place to begin. If my sister keeps in mind all of these points while she’s looking at jogging strollers, she’ll have a quality product that will last for years.
